About the Conference
This conference is organized by Dr. Denise I. Bossy from the History Department at the University of North Florida and Dr. Chester B. DePratter from the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of South Carolina.
Funding has generously been provided by the University of North Florida, the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of South Carolina, the St. Augustine Historical Society, and Flagler College.
The conference is a two-day event and features thirteen of the most prominent scholars of Southeastern Indians, Spanish Florida, and British South Carolina. The work presented at the conference is brand new and unpublished research on the Yamasee Indians. Particular topics of interest include: Yamasee origins and ethnohistory, Yamasee settlements in St. Augustine and South Carolina, the Yamasee War, Yamasee identity and town politics, and Yamasee relations with Africans, Creeks, and Seminoles.
We wish to thank Charles Closmann, Michael Boyles, and Marianne Roberts for their invaluable assistance.
